Freaky Friday ~ Pimp My Laptop, Steampunk Style
Closed and from the outside it appears to be an antique Victorian wind-up music box. But no, you’d be wrong. It’s a 21st century laptop pimped by Datamancer to look like a unique piece of steampunk technology.
‘It features an elaborate display of clockworks under glass, engraved brass accents, claw feet, an antiqued copper keyboard and mouse, leather wrist pads, and customized wireless network card. The machine turns on with an antique clock-winding key by way of a custom-built ratcheting switch made from old clock parts.’
Unfortunately, this is just a prototype which was made a few years ago but don’t dispair, you can own one, too! The ‘Steampunk Laptop’ is being upgraded with new technology and is currently available to pre-order from Datamancer’s website where you can find the technical specifications.
However, this unique beauty does come at a price with the first batch to go for $5,500 each with following batches increasing to $7,500. Despite this, I want one. If I had the money to spend I’d be stuffing that cash into their pockets and asking for a delivery estimate.
And if those pretty, pretty photos haven’t convinced you that you absolutely must empty your bank account for this then here’s the laptop in action:
