Manic Monday | Drive-By Reviews ~ There Be Dragons

MM-DBR

Manic Monday | Drive-By Reviews is a weekly feature where we’ll share some mini-reviews Alice-style.

Destiny Kills (Myth & Magic #1) by Keri Arthur

Desire calls. Danger Lurks.
But…

When Destiny McCree wakes up beside a dead man on an Oregon beach, she knows only this: she has to keep moving, keep searching, and keep one step ahead of the forces that have been pursuing her from the heart of Scotland to this isolated spot. Why? The death of her lover has left her alone, with little memory of her past. A glimmering serpent-shaped ring is the one clue she has—and a bargaining chip in a most dangerous game.

Enter Trae Wilson, a master thief with a sexy, knowing grin and a secret agenda of his own. Destiny and Trae both have powers far beyond the human—and both are running for their lives. Together they’re riding a tide of danger, magic, and lust…but with killers stalking their every move, they must use any means necessary, even each other, to survive—until the shocking secret of one woman’s destiny finally unravels…

“Curiouser and curiouser!” ~ Alice

Opening Line: “Some things I remembered.” {Destiny}
Closing Line: “That sounds like a damn fine plan,” I said, and kissed him. {Destiny}

“Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you’re at.” ~ Mad Hatter

For me, the beginning of the story was the best part. Destiny wakes up on the beach next to a dead man with little to no memory of who she is or why she’s there.

Destiny does know that she must leave, but go where? Why? She’s not really sure. The rest of the story involves Destiny trying to regain her memory. Once she does, she remembers she’s a half-sea, half-air dragon who had been held prisoner in a testing facility and she must get to her father before he dies. Along the way, she meets Trae. I enjoyed the romance between the pair and their banter along their journey together.

Rating:

“What is the use of a book, without pictures or conversations?” ~ Alice

Keri Arthur is not a new2me author.

“That’s just it. If you don’t think, then you shouldn’t talk.” ~ The Hare

Trae had a tendency to repeat the phrase “Trust me” over and over again, which was a bit irritating.
I realized, while I enjoyed this book, I like Keri’s UF series (Riley Jenson) more than her PNR.

“Take care of the sense, and the sounds will take care of themselves.” ~ The Duchess

Destiny and Trae are in the ocean at night; Trae says they should go inside.
{Destiny} “Or we could stay here, and talk about whatever pops up.”
{Trae} “Sweetheart, you may not feel the cold, but I’m fucking freezing.
Trust me, nothing worthwhile is going to pop up on a night like this.”

{Destiny} “Really? *looks down* That seems pretty worthwhile to me.”
{Trae w/a smile} “Trust me, it’s only a halfhearted effort.” Oooolala! 😉

“We’re all mad here.” ~ The Cheshire Cat

This book receives the Cheshire Cat award for introducing me to Keri’s PNR series featuring dragons.

Until Next Week ~ Happy Reading!
